Fox Sets Winter 2016 Schedule Marking Huge Changes

In January, Fox will introduce two new comedies; Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life and the long gestating Seth MacFarlane animated comedy 'Bordertown'. Both series will launch as part of Fox's Sunday comedy block, with Cooper Barrett receiving the post-Simpson's slot at 8:30 while 'Bordertown', as predicted, will join MacFarlane's other comedy 'Family Guy'. Cooper Barrett and 'Bordertown' will replace the current 8:30 and 9:30 slot holders 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' and 'The Last Man on Earth'. The former will return to Tuesdays, where it originally began airing in the 2013-14 season. The latter will take a mid-season break before returning to the 9:30 slot once 'Bordertown' finishes it's 13-episode run.

The addition of new series, and the displacement of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' has led to numerous changes to Fox's struggling Tuesday comedy block. Scream Queens will exit after its current, limited run (with a second season still unclear), and New Girl returning to the schedule after a long hiatus and Zoey Deschanel's pregnancy. New Girl will air a string of uninterrupted original episodes. Fox will use their veteran series as 8PM and 9PM anchors to try and boost the disappointing ratings for freshman comedies 'Grandfathered' and 'The Grinder' (both received the back nine after middling ratings).

Disney Channel Orders Musical Buddy Comedy 'Bizaardvark' to Series

Disney Channel has given a series order to new comedy series 'Bizaardvark'.

The series, which was previously titled 'Paige & Frankie' when it was ordered to pilot in May - revolves around two 13-year-old best friends, Paige and Frankie, who write funny songs and create music videos for their online channel, titled 'Bizaardvark', which has amassed 10,000 subscribers. The amateur musicians get to work from a creative studio space that they hope will take their videos to the next level. In their cool new environment, and with the help of family and friends, the girls will embark on a series of comedic adventures in their quest to become online stars.

The cast includes newcomers Olivia Rodrigo and Madiso Hu who will star as the titular Paige and Frankie, respectively. The series was created by Kyle Stegina and Josh Lehrman, recent graduates of Disney Channel's inaugural Storyteller's program, which is designed to develop the next generation of creators and writers for kids, tween and family programming,

'Bizaardvark' returns to familiar territory for Disney Channel, who, since the premiere of High School Musical a decade ago, have found immeasurable success in music-based content. Series such as 'Hannah Montana', which catapulted Miley Cyrus to superstardom, 'Shake It Up', which still holds the record for the largest audience for a series premiere on the network and also brought K.C. Undercover star Zendaya and Bella Thorne into the spotlight. Not to mention 'Austin & Ally', which will conclude in early 2016 after its current fourth season.

Disney Channel is also behind huge made-for-TV musical franchises including the Demi Lovato/Jonas Brothers flick 'Camp Rock', and the most recent 'Teen Beach Movie' franchise. The network also premiered musical-fairy-tale 'Descendants' earlier this year to rave reviews and high ratings.

Production on 'Bizaardvark' begins in early 2016 and is set to
premiere in summer 2016.

UPDATE: Bizaardvark will premiere on June 24 @ 9:45pm after Adventures in Babysitting.

Here's is the first teaser for the show:

Disney Channel has given a pilot order to an untitled single-camera comedy created by Terri Minsky, who also created one of the channel's first blockbuster original series Lizzie McGuire.

Young newcomer Peyton Elizabeth Lee has been cast as the pilot's lead. Similarly, Hilary Duff had few acting credits to her name when she was cast as Lizzie McGuire which turned out to be her breakout role.

The story introduces Andi Marcus (Lee) as she's about to celebrate her 13th birthday. she's eager to have a little teenage fun and adventure - just a little - but that might never happen because her strict mother is doing everything in her power to keep Andi from turning out like her older sister, Bex. As a teenager, Bex dropped out of school, left home and now, in her late 20s, still doesn't know what she wants out of life. But when Bex returns home and swears she is ready to get her life together, Andi's life is turned upside down and she's left questioning everything she's ever known.

Production on the pilot will begin in early 2016 in consideration for a series pick-up for 2016-17. Disney Channel, among many other cable outlets like TV Land and TBS which have built their original series slates with multi-camera comedies, will now make a greater push into single-camera shows.

The shift has taken place over the past development year and has led to the network ordering its first single-camera comedy series Stuck in the Middle, since the 2009 Jonas series. Additionally, Disney Channel also has musical buddy comedy Bizaardvark on deck for 2016.

Disney Channel initially found success in single-camera comedy programming during the early days with programs such as Lizzie McGuire, The Famous Jett Jackson and Even Stevens proving to be popular among viewers before That's So Raven ushered a new, multi-camera era for the network which has remained ever since.

The pilot will be executive produced by Minsky and Michelle Manning (Disney Channel's original movies Further Adventures in Babysitting and Teen Beach 2).
