ABC Fall 2018-19 Schedule!

ABC has a very strong schedule! There aren’t many changes, the biggest and the most important is the return of the Friday comedy block. The schedule plays to ABC’s strengths; comedy, TGIT and unscripted/live competition shows. Monday’s remain unchanged with last season’s hit The Good Doctor remaining in its timeslot. Tuesdays remain mostly unchained from mid-season this year. A new family comedy set in the 1970s, The Kids Are Alright will take over the post-Roseanne slot from The Middle which ends next week. Wednesdays remain mostly unchained except for American Housewife airing at 8:30. In its old timeslot, another new comedy Single Parents will air, leading into what ABC claimed to be their “highest testing pilot this season” A Million Little Things aka This Is Us 2. Despite Shonda Rhimes moving to Netflix, ABC will retain TGIT. Grey’s Anatomy will lead into Station 19, which premiered to okay ratings during mid-season this year. HTGAWM will return to its 10pm timeslot for its fifth season. During mid-season, For The People will take over its slot. I expect Grand Hotel to replace Station 19 next year as well. On Friday’s, ABC are reviving their Friday comedy block. Fresh Off the Boat will air head to head with Last Man Standing on Fox, the latter previously occupied FOTB’s slot. Speechless will follow FOTB at 8:30.

Here's Why Fox Cancelled Brooklyn Nine-Nine...

This week, Fox cancelled several bubble shows before Monday’s upfront presentation where the network will unveil their 2018-19 television schedule.

The cancellations of Brooklyn Nine-Nine (which was later revived by NBC), The Last Man on Earth, Lucifer, and The Mick should not come as a surprise for those who have followed recent news regarding Disney’s upcoming acquisition of Fox’s assets, including 20th TV. According to Rupert Murdoch, the Fox network will place greater focus on live programming including sports, which will take up much of the network’s programming hours next season. This means Fox will have to fill less hours with scripted programming. As a result, all of their “bubble” shows (shows with so-so ratings that could have justifiably been renewed or cancelled) are no longer needed. Basically, Fox needs to clear space for Sports which continues to draw high ratings which advertisers love.
