It’s
official. The CW just announced that the upcoming fifth season of Jane The
Virgin will be its last.
The show will not return until mid-season
(January/February 2019) and will therefore have a shorter season. I can’t say
I’m completely surprised by the news. The series star Gina Rodriguez let slip
that the upcoming season would be its last last month, but that does not make
the news any less painful. Since its debut in 2014, Jane the Virgin has been a
must watch show for me. It has retained its humour, Heart and high quality from
the beginning and is undoubtedly one of the best and most underrated shows
currently on air. Even though I’ll be sad to see the show go after only 5
seasons, I’m happy that the creator, cast, crew and writers have the chance to
say goodbye to these beloved characters on their own terms without being
cancelled or pulled from the schedule. Storytelling is such an integral concept
in Jane The Virgin and it will satisfying albeit extremely sad to see the
Jane’s final chapter!
